skopje
From Ohrid, I traveled to Skopje, North Macedonia’s capital, a city famously full of statues—so many, in fact, that there’s a local saying: “In Skopje, even the streets have more statues than people.” Walking through the city, I was struck by how art and history are intertwined everywhere.
I visited Saint Clement a beautiful religious site rich in history and atmosphere. Later, I spent time at the University in the city center, where I made some wonderful memories exploring the campus and interacting with students. Skopje’s mix of modern monuments, historic sites, and lively city life made it a uniquely memorable stop on my Balkan journey.
