In Marseille, we started by exploring Le Panier, the neighborhood near our accommodation. Its narrow streets and colorful walls gave a glimpse of the city’s historic character. We paused at Dutch Café for coffee and cake, a relaxing break before continuing our walk.

We visited Cathédrale La Major, an impressive cathedral reflecting the city’s maritime heritage. The Old Port of Marseille was next, bustling with life, where we also saw L’Ombrière de Norman Foster, a mirrored installation under which we took some memorable photos. Around the new square, we wandered and later enjoyed pizza in the area for dinner.

Overall, Marseille felt somewhat unsafe and unsettling, with the occasional sighting of large rats, which made parts of the city uncomfortable.

The next day, we had breakfast at Le Petit Café and then visited Palais Longchamp as the sun was setting, creating a beautiful atmosphere. We also went to Notre-Dame de la Garde, from where the city views were striking and panoramic.

For shopping, we visited Les Terrasses du Port mall. By chance, we stumbled upon La Marmite Joyeuse, a cooking competition where many chefs prepared dishes that we were able to taste and evaluate. After these experiences, we departed Marseille for our flight to Basel.
