annecy
After leaving Geneva, the journey continued to Annecy, a picturesque town often called the “Venice of the Alps” for its canals and charming old streets. Staying at Hôtel des Alpes provided a comfortable and welcoming base right in the heart of the city. Annecy immediately impressed with its blend of alpine scenery, medieval architecture, and relaxed French charm.
Exploring the city, Jardins de l’Europe offered beautifully landscaped gardens along the lakefront, perfect for leisurely strolls and lake views. The romantic Pont des Amours, or “Bridge of Love,” became an iconic photo spot, with couples enjoying the serene setting and gentle waters below. The historic Cathédrale Saint-Pierre showcased elegant architecture and centuries of local religious history.
The medieval Palais de l’Île, sitting on a small island in the Thiou Canal, reflected Annecy’s heritage as both a judicial and administrative center during past centuries. Nearby, Pont Morens provided another scenic crossing over the canal, enhancing the town’s fairytale-like atmosphere.
Culinary experiences were equally delightful. At Les Caprices d’Émilie, fresh, flavorful sandwiches with rich cheese fillings were savored — a perfect example of Annecy’s local gastronomy. Walking through the canals and streets, the combination of natural beauty, historic charm, and gourmet treats made Annecy a memorable stop on the journey.
